For my Fandom Freebie this week, I decided to talk about the best TV Shows I’m watching at the moment. If you know me IRL, you know I’m obsessed with TV series. September breathes life into me with its new premieres, and Hiatus season in like a knife to my heart. So here are the Top 10 TV Shows that are so good they will blow your mind:
Westworld
Legit my favorite show at the moment. It’s so incredibly well done and captivating, with beautiful cinematography, an extremely complex plot, and amazing character development. I think the most gratifying part about this show is how it wants you to figure out what’s happening, so it leaves clues and little bits of foreshadowing along to way to help you solve the mystery of the park. Season 1 is out now, but season 2 is only for next year.
Game of Thrones
Yes, hi hello, I love ASOIAF. I have to admit, though, I only started reading the books three episodes into season 1 of the show. It was just so good and fascinating that I had to know what happened, right that instant, haha. No waiting a week to find out. I’m glad to say the show continued to be amazing to watch (except season 5, we don’t talk about that), and now that we’re heading towards the end, I’m going to be so sad to see it go. Season 6 is out now, and season 6 premiers on July, 16!
Legion
I actually finished watching this yesterday and I’m not sure what to do?? I couldn’t possibly explain what this is about without confusing everyone, so just trust me when I say this is amazing. If you like mutants and superpowers and 70s aesthetic, you should definitely check this out. This shows also has one of the best soundtracks ever, and its use of music to complement the plot is super on point. Season 1 is out now, with only 8 episodes!
Mr. Robot
Do you like hacking done in a realistic way? Do you like unreliable narrators? Do you like mental illness being shown in a respectful way? This show is for you! Mr. Robot, much like Westworld, is incredible at messing with your head. You pretty much can’t trust what you’re seeing, but it still gives you clues to figure out what’s really going on. It also has amazing commentary on society today. Season 2 is out now, and season 3 should be here soon.
Stranger Things
As someone who grew up in the early 90s and had all my media be stuff from the 80s because I was at the mercy of my older sister, this show hits that little soft spot for me. Ah, nostalgia, for a time I didn’t experience myself, haha. Really, though, Stranger Things has all the things I love: weird science, jump scares, creepy monsters, D&D, friendship! Oh, and a pretty cool soundtrack as well. Season 1 is out now on Netflix, and season 2 premiers on Halloween night!
Black Sails
Excuse me while I yell about this: PIRATES! QUEER POC PIRATES WHO ARE COMPLEX CHARACTERS AND HAVE THEIR OWN STORIES AND STRUGGLES THAT DON’T REVOLVE AROUND THEIR SEXUALITY! MURDER! MAYHEM! UNBURYING THEIR GAYS! COOL SHIPS! MORE DEATH! A TREASURE! Honestly, this show is a fucking gift. It’s everything I never knew I wanted. The series finale aired this past Saturday, and all seasons are out for you to watch!
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
My favorite feel-good show with a diverse cast and characters. I just love them all so much! I’d argue B99 is the best comedy show currently out there. Definitely worth watching for the tasteful and super funny jokes, the crazy talented cast, and Gina’s distate for pretty much the entire world (I love you, Gina). The show deals with current themes, but still manages to be lighthearted and funny. Season 4 comes back with new episodes next week!
Orphan Black
The Tatiana Maslany show! I doubt there’s someone out there who can carry an entire series on her shoulders. Tatiana not only does it, but does it very well. Orphan Black is also the kind of show that leaves your thoughts in knots, as its complex plot just keeps getting weirder, haha. It’s also another show with creepy science, but also with humor and the wonderfulness that are families of choice. Season 4 is out now, and season 5 will air in June!
House of Cards
Is there another show that perfectly describes the current political scene? Is there? I rewatched this show this past couple of months, and its realness definitely feels like a slap in the face at times. Definitely worth checking out if you like politics, murder, and seeing how far people are willing to go to get where they want to be. Season 4 is out now on Netflix, and season 5 will come to fuck us up in May.
Black Mirror
I watched this last year, and I still think about it every once in a while. Black Mirror is just hella unsettling, mostly because it leaves you feeling like each self-contained episode could totally become a thing in real life. And that is so messed up, oh my god. Also another show that leaves you doubting your own reality and existence. Recommend watching it in small doses. Season 3 is out now, and all seasons are only 3 episodes!
