Following the grief and horror of her discovery of Jack the Ripper’s true identity, Audrey Rose Wadsworth has no choice but to flee London and its memories. Together with the arrogant yet charming Thomas Cresswell, she journeys to the dark heart of Romania, home to one of Europe’s best schools of forensic medicine… and to another notorious killer, Vlad the Impaler, whose thirst for blood became legend.

But her life’s dream is soon tainted by blood-soaked discoveries in the halls of the school’s forbidding castle, and Audrey Rose is compelled to investigate the strangely familiar murders. What she finds brings all her terrifying fears to life once again.

Hunting Prince Dracula was so much fun! I liked the tense and eerie vibe way more than the first novel. The twists worked much better this time around and I found myself surprised by quite a few of them. I still guessed who was behind everything pretty quickly but, this time, that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story.

The historical setting and how Maniscalco bent that to her favor was extremely well done. I still loved the pictures and drawings added throughout the novel and how much they contributed to the plot and the eerie vibe. It was also super fun recognizing some of the names from real historical figures.

The plot was tighter this time around as well, though the pace was still a bit slow and some bits dragged here and there. I really enjoyed the final few chapters and the little Audrey Rose and Thomas’ moments. Their relationship was very well developed and their teasing served as a great balance to all the murder.

I do feel like I have to mention the spiders scene: I hated it lol It was terrible and it made me extremely uncomfortable and I felt like there were spiders all over me.

Even so, Hunting Prince Dracula was a pretty entertaining October read! Its eerie vibe and tense scenes captured my attention and I really liked how the mystery was developed. Not sure I’ll be reading the third novel since I heard a love triangle is introduced??? for some stupid reason??? but I do think I’ll be catching the final novel in the series so I can see how it all ends for Audrey Rose and Thomas 😀
