Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: 2017 Debuts I’m Excited For.
Happy New Year! This Top 10 was a bit of a struggle for me, as most books I’m excited for are actually part of on-going series. So for the purpose of this post, I’ll be dividing my list into two parts: 1 – Debuts I’m Excited For; 2 – First Book in a New Series I’m Excited For. All of these will be published this year, so be on the look out for them!
THE LOVE INTEREST by Cale Dietrich
This is a book about teenage spies trained to be Love Interests so they can get close to people and gather important information. Not only does this sound like an incredible and unique way to address the cliche and bad treatment of characters that are reduced to only being used for romance, but it’s also LGBT+! Release date: May 16th 2017.
GILDED CAGE by Vic James
This is a mix of Fantasy and Dystopia, and sounds really interesting. It’s about a girl named Abi, a servant to a powerful family – aristocrats with magical gifts-, who falls in love for a noble-born boy. It also follows the story of her brother, Luke, who is enslaved in a factory town, and wants to get involved in a revolution. I’m really curious to see how it will all play out, especially with the different shifts in POV. Release date: February 14th 2017.
BLOOD ROSE REBELLION by Rosalyn Eves
A Historical Fantasy book, with magic and a real life setting: Hungary. It tells the story of a girl named Anna, who is unable to perform the easiest of spells. She is exiled by her family, and finds herself alone in a world unknown to her. This book also features a rebellion, and Anna finds herself right in the middle of it. Release date: March 28th 2017.
SHADOW RUN by Michael Miller and AdriAnne Strickland
A YA Sci-Fi novel. This has been described as Firefly meets DUNE, so I have pretty high expectations for it. It follows Nev, a prince in hiding, on his quest to change galactic civilization. He plans to capture the captain on said ship, Qole, who is the youngest-ever person to command her own ship. But Nev’s plan quickly falls apart, and he finds himself having to save her. Release date: March 21st 2017.
CARAVAL by Stephanie Garber
The synopsis reminds me a bit of The Night Circus: a magical place that entraps you, makes you fall in love, and then keeps you. The main character, Scarlett, is set to be married, but those plans quickly change when her sister is kidnapped by the Caraval’s organizer, Legend. Release date: January 31st 2017.
FIRST IN A NEW SERIES
CARVE THE MARK by Veronica Roth
Enemies to (hopefully) lovers – in space! Cyra comes from planet ruled by a brutal tyrant, and she has a gift that gives her pain and power, something her brother isn’t hesitant to explore. Akos is from a peace-loving nation, and has an usual gift of his own. He’s captured and thrust into Cyra’s world, and together they have to help each other survive. Release date: January 17th 2017.
FLAME IN THE MIST by Renee Ahdieh
Samurais! Alchemy! Disguises! This book is about Mariko, who is set to marry the son of the emperor’s favorite consort. Things don’t really work out when she’s victim of an assassination attempt and, disguising herself as a boy, sets out to figure out who put the target on her back. Release date: May 16th 2017.
IRON GOLD by Pierce Brown
I actually haven’t finished reading the Red Rising trilogy, but I plan to this year. This book – and new series – takes places after the end of Morning Star, and it explores the consequences of the main character’s actions, as well as how new characters are dealing with this new world they find themselves in. Release date: August 22nd 2017.
THE BONE WITCH by Rin Chupeco
I’m not ashamed to say I added this book to my TBR because of the cover. I mean, look at it. It is just so so so beautiful! So it was a huge bonus when I found out this was about witches. And not only that, but necromancers! Really excited and curious about this one. Release date: March 7th 2017.
STRANGE THE DREAMER by Laini Taylor
Straight from the summary: alchemy and blood candy, nightmares and godspawn, moths and monsters, friendship and treachery, love and carnage. Sounds like a wonderful setting for a new book that focuses on the aftermath of a war between men and gods. Release date: March 28th 2017.
