To Be Read – January 2017

tbr

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful time during the holidays, and that 2017 brings us all good things. 💖

January is going to be a busy month for me. I’ll be incapacitated for a little while, since I’m taking my wisdom teeth out at the beginning of the month. That means I will need rest, which translates to a lot of reading time! I still tried to keep my TBR relatively small, though, as not to overwhelm myself.

TBR JAR

One of my 2017 resolutions is to try new things, so this will be the first year I’m doing a TBR Jar! This is a little different from the ones circling around. Instead of writing down challenges I need to complete, I wrote down the titles of 50 different books that are currently on my TBR. Some of them I own physical copies of, others only digital copies. This is my attempt to catch up on all the books I need to read, and hopefully it’ll keep me motivated throughout the year. This months picks were:

THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR BY NICOLA YOON ✨

I legit only heard good things about this book. It’s a boy-meets-girl Contemporary Young Adult novel that tells the story of Natasha and Daniel, and the romance that blossoms between them.

INTO THE FURY BY KAT MARTIN ✨

A Romantic Suspense novel or, as I like to call it, my guilty pleasure. It’s your typical ‘badass Alpha-male meets gorgeous woman and they fight a lot but fall in love’ kind of thing, but I have to say I’m looking forward to it.

OTHER BOOKS I WANT TO GET TO

There were a lot of books I wanted to read last year that I didn’t get the chance to, so I’m going to try to spread them out during the months. There are also some new releases I’m dying to get my hands on, but you’ll see a more detailed list on my Anticipated January Reads post.

✨ HEARTLESS BY MARISSA MEYER

✨ GATHERING DARKNESS (Falling Kingdoms #3) BY MORGAN RHODES

THE ARCHITECT OF SONG BY A. G. HOWARD

WINDWITCH (The Witchlands #2) BY SUSAN DENNARD

CARAVAL BY STEPHANIE GARBER

DISSERTATION BOOKS

I’m graduating at the end of this year! I’m going to write my dissertation on Gothic Literature, so I’ll be reading and rereading a lot of Gothic books this year. For this month, my picks are:

REBECCA BY DAPHNE DU MAURIER

I actually started reading this one last year, but had to put it down because life got too busy. I really enjoyed the beginning, though, and am curious to see how the story unfolds.

FRANKENSTEIN BY MARY SHELLEY

We all know the story, but I’m kind of ashamed to say I never actually read this one? But I’m definitely going to rectify that mistake right away! 😀

What are you reading this month? Have you read any of the books mentioned above? Let me know in the comments!

I LOVED The Sun is Also a Star and Heartless! Marissa Meyer is so amazing. I don’t have a definite TBR, but I only have one book left from Christmas to read and a Fantastic Beasts extra, so I’m off to the library/book depository. 🙂

I just finished The Sun Is Also a Star yesterday and it was SO FREAKING CUUTE!!! The review will be up this week, but omg it was so adorable and definitely a 5-star read for me 😀 I’ll pick up Heartless soon, which I’m also pretty excited about. Aaahh, I hope you find lots of goodies at the library and on BD! Happy reading ❤

I have a TBR Jar too!! Though the first title I picked was The Program and I’ve kind of been ignoring it thanks to all the books I got for Christmas. Whoops. I’m in the middle of Heartless right now and I’m LOVING it (highly recommend the audiobook) and I’ve read Frankenstein for school as well but sadly I thought it was pretty boring.

Yay for TBR Jars! I hope mine will save me from my monster TBR pile 😛 Hahahaha, I actually just broke off my January TBR to read other books as well, oopsie. I’m dyyyiinnggg to get to Heartless! I love retellings and I’ve only heard good things about it, so I’m super curious. And I’ll keep an eye out for your review 😀 Gah, Frankenstein isn’t one of my faves, but for the sake of research I have to read it 😛

Good twist on the TBR Jar 😉 I decided to join a challenge for that. We all need to get with our TBR.
I haven’t read the books you want to read this month, but I did read Everything Everything (have you?) and I loved it, so if it has anything in common, you chose well 😉 I plan on reading it this year though, so I’ll be waiting for your review to see what you think.
You have a pretty good list of books you want to read. I’m going to check that Anticipated January Reads when you post it.
And wow, your dissertation topic is amazing! Congratulations on graduating this year 👍👍
